We can no longer ignore the diabetes epidemic

In a recent open letter to the honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, Diabetes Canada is joined by approximately 40 organizations in health and corporate Canada, as well as health advocate patients in urging the government to support and implement a nation-wide diabetes strategy - Diabetes 3600.

This fall, more than 14,000 Canadians signed a petition calling on all political parties to commit to launching a nation-wide diabetes strategy to prevent one million cases of diabetes and avoid hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations for diabetes-related conditions in the next 10 years.

And 35,000 emails were sent to candidates during the federal election campaign, asking for their support for Diabetes 360˚.

Canadians clearly want our federal government to do more about diabetes. Our hope is this open letter will prompt action by Minister Hajdu to take the next step to collaborate on this initiative as we work to stem the tide of this growing epidemic.
