Naming Diabetes Canada a beneficiary of a registered fund does not affect your current financial situation and allows you to maintain ownership and use of the fund.
Choose from any of these options:
-
Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)
-
Registered Income Fund (RRIF)
-
Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA)
Benefits
-
Gain the satisfaction of providing a future gift while retaining ownership and use of the fund during your lifetime.
-
A charitable tax receipt for the value of the plan will offset estate taxes for your estate.
- By designating a beneficiary, these assets may fall outside of your estate, excluding them from probate fees.
- You have the option to donate all or a portion of your retirement funds, so you can still provide for your family by naming more than one beneficiary.
Next steps
Making a gift of RRSPs or RRIFs is simple:
- Request a change of beneficiary form from your plan provider.
- Change the beneficiary information on the fund document by naming Diabetes Canada as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your RRSP/RRIF or TFSA and return the document to your plan provider.
