Diabetes Canada acknowledges that today’s stakeholder consultation signals the Health Minister is taking the matter very seriously. “We understand the complexity of the issue so it will take more time before specific solutions are put forward,” says Seema Nagpal, vice-president of Science and Policy with Diabetes Canada. “But there needs to be action soon.”
The Minister accepted the request for a technical briefing to outline proposed actions to address the issues raised by the stakeholders that included representatives from patient groups, health-care and industry. “We encourage the Minister and her staff to ensure that this Briefing is set up as quickly as possible,” says Nagpal. “Diabetes Canada is staying close to this issue to ensure people living with diabetes are protected from potential drug shortages that would negatively impact their health and well-being.”
Diabetes Canada sincerely thanks those from the diabetes community who have come forward with their thoughts and personal experiences and we will continue to share updates as this issue continues to evolve.
