Join us on July 25th for our 10th annual Flame of Hope Golf Tournament at the beautiful Shelburne Golf and Country in Shelburne, Ontario. This event is a fun day featuring 18 holes with powercarts, auction and raffle, on course activities and competitions, prizes, and giveaways. Every year the tournament sells out and brings participants from different industries and skill sets in the community together to show their support and make an impact.
Now, more than ever we need support from community champions to ensure that all children wanting to attend camp have the opportunity. D-Camps has become an integral part of the lives of children and families affected by type 1 diabetes.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 to support local children with type 1 diabetes by sending them to our Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps program. D-Camps provides children living with type 1 diabetes a medically supervised, real summer came experience and the opportunity to connect with other kids who truly understand them.
Agenda
- Crossover Format - Tee Times: Beginning at 9 a.m.
- Lunch: At the turn
- Refreshments: On the patio immediately following golf
The Impact
In Support of Diabetes Canada’s D-Camps Programs
Camp Huronda, founded in 1964, has since become an integral part of the lives of children and families affected by type 1 diabetes. Since its inception, Camp Huronda is the only camp facility owned by Diabetes Canada and the only camp that runs a full summer program. Camp Huronda is located on the shores of Lake Waseosa in Ontario's beautiful Musoka area.
Type 1 diabetes introduces children, youth, and families to a new reality, one that can make some kids feel different from their friends. A diagnosis also brings with it a whole new set of skills to learn, including testing blood glucose (sugar) levels, priming needles for injection, and counting the daily intake of carbs. Many young people often find themselves being the only person at their school or in their community with diabetes and it can be challenging to accept a diagnosis.
Your generosity can help send a child to camp and foster an atmosphere of inclusivity where campers gain a new level of independence in managing their type 1 diabetes.
