Recognizing that diabetes is a significant public health issue – affecting approximately 386,000 Manitobans – Dynacare is once again partnering with Diabetes Canada and offering free A1C (blood sugar) tests throughout Diabetes Awareness Month, with the goal of screening 55,000 Manitobans.
Between Oct. 21 and Nov. 30, Dynacare will once again be making a 50-cent donation to Diabetes Canada for every A1C test completed at a Dynacare location in Manitoba, up to a total of $25,000. This campaign comes at no cost to Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living as it is fully funded by Dynacare, including the cost of all additional A1C tests ordered.
This year, Dynacare is also reinforcing its commitment to Manitoba’s at-risk communities by providing mobile clinics at select locations throughout the province. The goal is to provide improved access to care for those most at-risk for this all-too-common disease.
To learn more about whether you are at risk, take the online diabetes risk questionnaire. Speaking to your doctor is also a good place to start as they will inform you if screening is necessary, issue a lab requisition form (a document saying you should get a certain test done) and explain the testing process.
If you’re concerned you may have diabetes but unable to see a doctor, Dynacare can help. During this campaign, Manitobans can walk into one of Dynacare’s centres in Manitoba or visit a Dynacare mobile clinic, where staff will collect some information and provide a doctor’s requisition for an A1C test if you don’t already have one from your primary care physician. Individuals with abnormal test results (high blood sugar) will be contacted directly – either by their doctor or the campaign doctor – to arrange a consultation.
